Set in small town Indiana in 1890, The King and Queen of Foggy Flats tells the story of newcomers who bring their high-falutin’ ways to a small country town. At first they are met with distrust, but the way they care for their neighbors — including teaching the boy next door to fence — gradually wins friendship and, eventually,  admiration. But who are these mysterious new neighbors? It’s funny, touching, and thoroughly unexpected.

The King and Queen of Foggy Flats is the 2025 winner of the Chickasaw Writers Project. R. H. Nicholson, who lives in Greendale, Indiana, taught high school and college writing until retirement, when he turned to his own writing projects. Since then he has had several pieces of short fiction and poetry published, and his first novel, Justice House Shadows, is due out in 2025.
